After reading Katie Wood Ray's "Two Kinds of Writing" excerpt, I am beginning to see how much importance there is in just getting students to write for the sake of writing.
Now, having read Yancey's "Writing in the 21st Century," I also understand how the history of writing has developed and how the new resources we have today are great tools to reach our students.
Finally, having finished Troy Hicks' first Chapter on the digital writing workshop, I see how the very definition of literacy is constantly evolving. We as teachers of writing need to be willing to use the technology that is available to us to engage our students in writing. He discusses how "composing" is not just writing but also includes linguistic diversity that is shaping our nation.
My concerns would be about the fair use and copyright implications that are mentioned here and that he plans to address more fully in later chapters.
